Ecuador!!!

Once they said South America leaving mid-June, I was pretty sure that I was going to be going to Ecuador... Which I am totally excited for!!! How could I not be?

So I have watched the Anthony Bourdain episode from Ecuador about three times since yesterday! Now its on to other more pressing stuff, getting though all this paper work, getting passports, and most of all finalizing my packing list and getting things together. One things that im dont know what im going to name my blog now that I know where im going.

Did you study spanish in school? If so, how many semesters? Was your original nomination for a french speaking country?

Hey Sarita thats totally cool you are leaving for Latin America to! It would be totally cool if you go to go to Ecuador... When are you leaving (supposed to leave, early, mid, late?) I just found out on the 27th, but I was looking on FB and there were people who got their postings in February, but I was also supposed to go to Africa. My assignment is HIV/AIDS prevention education, Im super excited! Tell me when you find out!

Kelly, I did study Spanish in school (I took 2 semesters) but that was almost 3 years ago. They told me in my interview that my spanish wasnt good enough to be nominated for South America, but thats where I ended up. I was originally nominated for non-french speaking SubSaharan Africa.

All I know bout my leaving date is that it is in June and I am doing youth and community development and HIV/AIDS education. I also know that I am going to a country where volunteers live with a host family the full two years of services. The Community and Youth Development placeement desk has my file currently, so hopefully I will hear back soon?

I was nominated in June 09, medically cleared on Jan 5th 2010, and haven't heard much from the PC in a while. I hope I find out soon! I am going crazy!

My best friend is leaving for Botswana at the end of the week for her Peace Corps assignment and my job just offered me a huge promotion. I don't want to take it if I am leaving, but am scared that the PC invite won't ever come!!

Congrats and keep me updated!

Hey Sarita... I definetly think you will hear soon, people are still hearing, and its not the 6 week mark yet... :) I emailed my PO saying i had a little update to my resume just to give them a poke and see if things were look good... and with in 2 weeks-ish I got my invite... but soo far the people who are going to Ecuador are either doing youth/community development and HIV/AIDS education.... so you might be headed with us! Definetly keep me updated with what you hear/where you are going!

Ya! I sent them my resume in feb and my final transcripts the end of march. I called them the other day just to check in because I wasn't sure if I should turn down the promotion. But they said I may not hear until May 1st (the last date they will send me an invite for my program). I took the promotion cuz my work still doesn't know I may be leaving. I feel bad, but hope my invite comes soon. I am tired of not being able to make any honest commitments!!!

I will let ya know as soon as i find out!

Hey Jackie, my name is Jason Holliday and I'm a current volunteer in Ecuador in the community health program. It sounds from your invitation that you'll be in the same program as me so congrats!!! You'll love the country, its been an awesome experience for me so far! We'll be seeing each other sooner than you realize!!!

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at hjason887@yahoo.com. I know packing can be stressful and I ended up bringing a ton of useless stuff...

Have a great week!!!
